Jr Hoops is a nonprofit youth basketball league dedicated to giving beginner-to-intermediate players, ages 6 to 14, a supportive and inclusive environment to learn and enjoy the sport. Our mission is to promote physical activity, teamwork, and personal development through basketball. We're looking for passionate, dedicated officials to join our team and make a positive impact on young athletes in our community.

Position overview

As a Youth Basketball Referee at Jr Hoops, you'll play a vital role in keeping games safe, fair, and fun. We're seeking passionate, knowledgeable referees committed to maintaining a positive playing environment and ensuring every game is conducted according to the rules and spirit of the sport.

Responsibilities

• Officiate youth basketball games fairly and impartially, ensuring all players adhere to the rules of the game.
• Provide a positive and respectful atmosphere for players, coaches, and spectators during games.
• Communicate effectively with coaches and players to address questions or concerns about rules and decisions.
• Enforce game rules and maintain control of the game to prevent unsportsmanlike behavior.
• Collaborate with other referees, coaches, and Jr Hoops staff to ensure smooth game operations.
• Attend league games as required.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a basketball referee, preferably with youth games.
• Thorough understanding of basketball rules and game mechanics.
• Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
• A positive and professional demeanor.
• A background check and relevant certifications may be required.
